THE CHALLENGE
SIMPLIFYING THE BUSINESS-BUILDING PROCESS
Building a business is a complex process. Entrepreneurs are usually very passionate about their product and tend not to deal with important aspects of building a good business. As a result, many businesses fail due to lack of experience or knowledge. An overwhelming amount of start-ups, for example, fail since they don't address something as basic as a true consumer need.
USER RESEARCH
UNDERSTANDING OUR USERS AND THEIR JOURNEY
Since our users would meet KAI at different important stages of their business building journey, it was essential to understand what these stages where, the users's sentiment at each stage, and what KAI should accomplish. We mapped out the full journey to get a clear overview of our product goals.
INFORMATION ARCHITECTURE
TURNING COMPLEX PROCESSES INTO SMALL TASKS
In order for entrepreneurs to be able to digest the incredible amount of information, we needed to come up with a clear information architecture.
By creating a clear structure we were able to break down the complexity of business building into small and easy to perform tasks.
Getting the experience right for individual users, meant we needed a robust onboarding process. This process would allow us to provide a tailored
experience for our users based on their specific needs.
THE RESULT
MAKING BUSINESS BUILDING FUN
With KAI, any entrepreneur or aspiring entrepreneur can validate and develop their business idea. With the product's first release, and by performing the simple tasks, users create their initial investor deck. In the future, KAI will connect these businesses to opportunities such as investors and corporates looking to innovate.
While the business building process is performed 'bottom-up' through the above mentioned tasks, the user is also able to view their accomplishments or proceed with the process, 'top-down'. The business page provides a clear overview of the business divisions and the progress of the business building process.
With the developed app, we went to SXSW to present our product and get user feedback. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with many young entrepreneurs complementing us on the ease of use of our product. Currently, the founders of KAI are using the POC and its vision to attract additional funding.
Our main goal for SXSW was talking to our audience, show our app and get feedback. With over 400K visitors and thousands trying to get everyone's attention, you want to stand out in the crowd. I came up with the idea for and designed t-shirts that would achieve just that. The idea was that people would read the names of the well-known successfull entrepreneurs and then wonder who kai is. The shirts were an overwhelming success with numerous people approaching us, allowing us to tell about our venture and show the product.
